On 27 June, staff from the Wodonga Sports and Leisure Centre attended the Thinking Outside the Man Box seminar at The Cube, Wodonga. The ‘Man Box’ is a set of beliefs within and across society that place pressure on men to behave or act a certain way because of their gender.
Thinking Outside the Man Box included engaging and impactful speakers who each brought their own expertise and experiences to the seminar; including current research, personal stories as well as an interactive workshop that made everyone reflect on the impact the Man Box has had on them (including women).
Thinking Outside the Man Box provided our staff with a great insight into the way men are perceived in our community and some of the expectations that are placed on them. The session provided a platform for an honest conversation that explored where the current man box has taken us and how we can help shape what tomorrow’s man might look like for the boys and men of our community.
